What is a certified translator?

A certified translator is a professional who has university training and many years of experience as translator. A translator is granted the title of certified translator once he/she has passed an examination sanctioned by the Canadian Translators and Interpreters Council (CTIC) or by one of their affiliate professional corporations.

Certified translators, like chartered accountants or barristers, are governed by professional regulations (a code of ethics).
